Throughout the year the texts we have studied have provided us with inspiration on the topic and themes of our devised drama. The texts we have studied in Theatre Studies have been Anton Chekov’s â€Å"Three Sisters† and Sophocles’ â€Å"Antigone†, one of the three Theban plays. The link between these plays is the role of women and could be described as proto-feminist. â€Å"Antigone† shows us a woman who is prepared to go against the rule of the city and Creon, whom should be the dominant male in the play. â€Å"Three Sisters† portrays three women who cope with the death of their father, and live without men in their lives. We have used both of these ideas in our devised drama, as all our women are single and go against the stereotypical view of women allowing the audience to see a contrast of five women, all a foil to the traditional view of women in the catholic church. We have also been influenced by a collection of poetry we have studies on our English Literature course. Carol Ann Duffy is well known as a feminist writer and her 1999 collection, â€Å"The World Wife† is an original collection in which she explores the view of the wives of historical, biblical and mythological men and gives the reader a chance to see the great tales concerning these men through the eyes of the woman, who is often shown to be much more strength in character than her husband or partner. After studying the poems, our group decided to base our five female characters on poems in the play, these poems being â€Å"Delilah†, â€Å"Mrs Faust†, â€Å"Mrs Midas†, â€Å"Salmone† and â€Å"Mrs Lazarus†. Using these as guidelines for our characters, the five girls in our group were able to elaborate on then, using the techniques of our practitioner, Stanisvlaski, to create a full character from the narrative in our selected poems. Caryl Churchill’s play â€Å"Top Girls† was also an influence on us. The play â€Å"Top Girls† shows the audience famous women from the past having a dinner party together and discussing their experiences to one another. This is not unlike our devised drama and influenced us to choose the setting of a gathering. The 1995 movie â€Å"How To Make An American Quilt† directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse inspired us for the idea of our women making a quilt together to commemorate the memory of a person from the village in which our play is set.

Brace's father and mother were killed, when Bruce as a child, insisted that they leave a play hat had bats in it; they were gunned down by a low-life thug, who panicked when things during the robbery got heated. Bruce, left with a guilty conscience that it was his fault that his parents were killed, turned to a life of crime and was eventually sent to Jail. To Bruce, this was a chance to try and save Gotcha from people like Falconer.When Bruce was to be tested by executing a prisoner of the League of Shadows (the organization that Bruce was trained by). He couldn't do it, because if he did, he would be doing the same thing that he is punishing criminals for, so Instead of falling to the dark, and twisted path, he flees the League of Shadows, leaving a destroyed â€Å"DODOS† behind him; a path set for the salvation of Gotcha before him. Bruce decided to use a symbol, the bat to begin his campaign of Justice.Bruce beco mes the batman and took his Justice to a corrupted Gotcha, a place his father had set to save, was now In the hands of Bruce Wayne, the Batman. Batman brought the fear to people Like Falconer and Dry. Crane ND he saved many people from thugs that Infected the city throughout. The Bat's Idea of Justice was to save people, and maybe reach a peace In his heart from a life wasted, sitting In the type of rot his father always wished to cure Gotcha of. Henry Ducal tells Bruce that Justice Is balance: an eye-for-eye and tooth-for-tooth.As an example Ducal burns down Wayne Manor because Bruce had burned down Ducat's house. â€Å"Consider us even,† Ducal said. According to Ducal, Justice and revenge are one and the same. However Brace's Love, Rachel Dates responds very Nintendo to Bruce when he says he wanted to kill the man who murdered his parents because they deserved Justice. Rachel says that there Is a difference between Justice and revenge: â€Å"Justice Is about harmony,† compared to â€Å"revenge Is about making yourself feel better. At the end, Bruce rejects Ducat's definition of Justice and tells Rachel she was right: â€Å"Justice Is about more than revenge. † However the man who murdered Brace's parents was killed but not by Bruce. A problem that is keeping world hunger from being solved is the issue is most prominent. Third world countries are the most problematic areas for hunger and malnutrition because they often have the most political issues, and these countries do not have any backup money source or food source when a natural disaster happens. Mowbray believes the economic system we live in now creates more of a gap between the developed countries and the third world countries (556). This gap makes it harder for the third world countries to buy food when they have a natural disaster such as a flood or a drought, which causes the country not to be able to produce the food that is needed for the people to survive. Nah and Chau agree with this and believe the third world countries are in a bad spot because whenever they have a drought or flood, or they have political unrest they are not able to provide for their country. In the 1950s Television was first introduced to America, only ten percent of the families owned a one television in their home, by 1960 that number increased to a mere 90% of the people owning a TV, but now a whopping 99% of homes in our country own a TV. 54% of chidren have one in their own Television has become so much of a part of are existense that it is virtually impossible to imagine life without it. We all love TV. We cant help ourselves. But the question is what is TV doing to us?, and how much is too much? Children begin to react to television at a very early age, studies show that by the age of three, 95% of children will imitate someone on TV as they would a real live person, and children between the ages of six and ten believe that most of what they see on television is true life. Children learn more about life through the media than any other matter. It is said that the average child, from the ages of three to twelve will watch a minimum of 28 hours of TV a week, meaning children spend more time in front of the so called Boob Tube then they do in the classroom. This makes them very vulnerable to the effects that television causes.
